Bramble gathering
Brookmill Park, August 2021

I taught participants how to weave a basket using foraged bramble stems which we found and prepared in the park. Whilst weaving we shared blackberry crumble cake and blackberry leaf tea.

Then we used the baskets to collect blackberries along the River Ravensbourne.

Phytograms with foraged weeds
Propostion studios and Burgess Park, August 2020

We foraged leaves and flowers from Burgess Park which were then used to create phytograms (a technique that uses the internal chemistry of plants for the creation of images on photographic emulsion).

METHOD:
The plants are soaked in a solution of vitamin C and washing soda which releases their phenol and makes them suitable as a developing agent. After placing directly on photographic emulsion (paper or film), detailed chemical traces of their form and internal structure emerge.
